Status: record in construction
The public record of the Boston multifamily market.
Boston Units is a continuously maintained record of multifamily property sales (2 units and up) in Suffolk County, built from recorded deeds and public assessor data. It is free to read, with no paywall and no gated data.
Coverage
- Geography: Boston, Chelsea, Revere and Winthrop, the four municipalities of Suffolk County, which share one Registry of Deeds.
- Property type: multifamily buildings with 2 or more units. Condominium units are excluded.
- Transactions: market sales. Foreclosure deeds, deeds in lieu and portfolio sales are published as events but flagged.
- Tiers: 2–4 units, 5–20 units, 21+ units.
Where things stand
The record is being assembled from the Suffolk Registry of Deeds and the assessor data for each municipality. No figures are published until each one can be computed from a source record. See the methodology for exactly how that works.
The first weekly brief ships on a Sunday, and a new one follows every Sunday after that. The archive lives at /brief/.
